Ann Trason won Western States 14 times, set a former 100 km world best, and twice completed the Comrades–Western States double.

The record so far
Ann Trason is one of the defining athletes in ultrarunning history. She won Western States 14 times between 1989 and 2003, including ten consecutive victories from 1989 through 1998. Her 17:37:51 finish in 1994 remained the women’s course record until Ellie Greenwood lowered it in 2012.
Trason also established a then-world-best 100 km time of 7:00:48 at the 1995 IAU World Cup in Winschoten. Her range extended to Comrades, where she won the 1996 Up Run and 1997 Down Run before winning Western States less than two weeks later in both years.
After her championship career, Trason continued taking part in ultras at a different competitive level. DUV records starts in fixed-time and trail events through 2026, including the Jackpot 48 Hour and Across the Years six-day race.
