Two days of continuous decisions
48-Hour Races
A two-day fixed-time race where sleep, recovery choices, and the second night become central parts of the plan.
How the Format Works
A 48-hour race extends the familiar fixed-time model across two full day-night cycles. Runners accumulate distance on a measured course while choosing when to walk, eat, change, rest, or sleep.
The second night changes the problem. Early pacing errors, food fatigue, foot damage, and sleep loss can compound, so the best plan is a set of tested options rather than one rigid mileage or sleep schedule.

48-Hour FAQs
Is a 48-hour race simply twice as hard as a 24-hour race?
No single multiplier describes the difference. The second day adds sleep decisions, repeated foot and skin care, appetite changes, and more opportunities for small pacing or logistics errors to accumulate.
Should you practice running through the night?
Routine sleep-deprivation training is not necessary. A controlled session can test lighting, layers, food, safety, and late-hour logistics, but it should have a safe route, a clear purpose, and protected recovery afterward.
How much should you sleep in a 48-hour race?
There is no universal schedule. Prepare multiple rest options and use alertness, coordination, symptoms, goals, and race conditions to decide. Confusion, repeated falls, hallucinations, or involuntary sleep require prompt assessment.
