Snowman Race

Laya, Gasa, to Chamkhar, Bumthang, Bhutan · Mountain

A five-day stage race for selected, invited runners along Bhutan's Snowman Trek, from Laya in Gasa to Chamkhar in Bumthang, covering about 175 km with passes up to 5,470 m to draw attention to climate change.

Edition note: This is the third international edition. It starts in Laya on October 24, the second day of the Royal Highland Festival, and finishes at Chamkhar Sports Arena in Bumthang on October 28. There is no open registration: prospective runners contact the race director. On October 12, the organizer's athletes page listed 18 runners, 12 international and 6 from Bhutan.

Ultra X Madeira

The Last Desert

Antarctica · Mixed

The final event in the 4 Deserts Grand Slam. A multi-stage footrace on the Antarctic continent, accessed by expedition ship from Ushuaia, Argentina. The most remote race on the planet.

Edition note: November 13–23 is the full expedition window, including the voyage from and back to Ushuaia. The current itinerary places up to six Antarctic stages between November 16 and 20, subject to landing and weather conditions.

Ultra X Rwanda

A two-stage, 110 km race through northern Rwanda's volcanic foothills, twin lakes, jungle valleys, and coffee and banana fields.

MDS 120 Morocco

Ouarzazate Province, Morocco · Desert

A three-stage, food-self-sufficient Sahara event with 70 km, 100 km, and 120 km options plus four nights in the race bivouac.

Result: Rachid El Morabity won the 120 km course of MDS 120 Morocco 2026 in 9:28:39 over three stages, 4:17 ahead of Louis Godeman. Sylvie Van Baelen was the first woman in 12:29:47, sixth overall. 296 runners finished the longest course.

Ultra X Jordan

Wadi Rum, Jordan · Desert

A multi-stage trail race through the dramatic landscapes of Wadi Rum and the Jordanian desert. One of the Ultra X global adventure racing series.

Result: Kevin Higgins won Ultra X Jordan 2026 in 22:21:51 across five stages. Line Caliskaner won the women's race in 23:05:19, second overall. 54 of the 62 listed runners completed all five stages.

Ultra BOLIVIA Race

Altiplano and Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia · Desert

A seven-stage, food-self-sufficient race across Bolivia's high Altiplano and salt-flat landscapes, held at elevations of roughly 3,600–4,100 m.

Result: Olivier Wijtenburg won the 2026 Ultra Bolivia Race in 28:10:38 over seven stages. Marta Comalat Canet won the women's race in 31:32:05, fourth overall. 22 runners finished all seven stages.

Grand to Grand Ultra

Grand Canyon to Grand Staircase, Utah/Arizona, USA · Desert

A self-supported 6-stage, 7-day desert foot race from the Grand Canyon region toward the Grand Staircase, based out of Kanab, Utah.

Result: Emily Keddie won the 2026 Grand to Grand Ultra outright in 37:51:23. Andy Pearson was the first man in 39:09:59, second overall. 27 runners finished the six stages.

Dragon's Back Race

Conwy to Cardiff, Wales, UK · Mountain

A legendary 6-day mountain stage race along the spine of Wales, covering technical terrain from Conwy Castle to Cardiff with 16,400m of ascent.

Result: Danny Smith won the 2026 Dragon's Back Race in 46:59:52 and Isobel Turner won the women's race in 67:46:19, with 116 of 152 entrants completing the route to Cardiff Castle.

Transalpine Run

Lenzerheide to Locarno, Switzerland · Mountain

A seven-stage, 258 km crossing of the Swiss Alps from Lenzerheide to Locarno, offered for solo runners and teams of two.

Result: Luis Valle Barrientos won the solo men's classification of the 21st Transalpine Run in 24:17:40 over seven stages, and Laura Hesse won the solo women's category in 34:02:39.

Namib Race

Namib Desert, Namibia · Desert

A 250km, 6-stage self-supported ultramarathon through the Namib Desert — sand dunes, salt pans, dry riverbeds, and gravel plains. Finishes in the coastal town of Swakopmund.

Result: Takuro Kumagai won the Namib Race outright in 26:53:21, with Michaela Punz-Raml the women's winner in 31:05:20.

Beyond the Ultimate Mountain Ultra

Tian Shan Mountains, Kyrgyzstan · Mountain

A 200km self-sufficient mountain ultramarathon across five stages in the Tian Shan range, with altitude, technical terrain, and 10,500m of total ascent.

Result: Tommy Chen won the 2026 Mountain Ultra in 37 hours 13 minutes and Sue Paz-Bylund won the women's race in 42 hours 34 minutes.

Gobi March

Karakorum, Central Mongolia · Desert

The 20th edition of this 250km, 6-stage self-supported race through the Mongolian steppe. Part of the RacingThePlanet 4 Deserts series. Route passes through the UNESCO World Heritage Orkhon Valley.

Result: Elise Lagerstrom won the Gobi March outright in 28:52:37, becoming the first woman to win a 4 Deserts race overall, with Rob Robinson first man in 29:44:48.

Marathon des Sables

Sahara Desert, Morocco · Desert

The 40th edition of the legendary 'Marathon of the Sands.' A 6-stage, 250km self-supported footrace through the Sahara Desert — widely considered the toughest foot race on Earth.

Result: Mohamed El Morabity won the 40th edition in 20:47:39, ahead of his brother Rachid and Ludovic Pommeret, and Maryline Nakache won the women's race in 25:54:29, with 1,350 finishers.
