Measured repeated-loop event hosted by Skanderborg Ultra for the GOMU 48-hour championship. Skanderborg Ultra races on a 1,000 m loop at Dyrehaven 4 in Skanderborg, and the opening ceremony and race briefing take place in the middle of the course.

Skanderborg Ultra uses a 1,000 m loop, so every lap is exactly a kilometer. DUV describes the course used through 2025 as 400 m on a gravel running track and 600 m of mixed gravel, path and pavement, with about 5 m of climb per lap; the organizer lists its current records as set in 2026 on a new track and has not published that layout in detail. The course is lit at night (6 PM to 7 AM at the October race). At noon on the final day, each runner plants a marker where they stop and must stay until officials have measured the partial lap. GOMU shoe rules apply: commercially available models only, a sole no thicker than 40 mm and no more than one carbon plate. Music is allowed, but runners must step off the course to text or check results, and men must wear a top.

Early September in central Jutland is usually mild. Climate normals for Aarhus Airport (1991–2020), the nearest major weather station about 50 km from Skanderborg, give September highs around 17°C (63°F), lows near 10°C (49°F) and about 73 mm of rain spread over roughly 11 wet days. Two nights near 10°C mean warm layers for the slow hours after midnight. Recent championships were warmer: iRunFar described Pabianice in late May 2025 as near 30°C (86°F) with high humidity.

Why This Race Matters

GOMU, the Global Organization of Multi-Day Ultramarathoners, was founded in October 2021 to keep records at multiday distances and to stage world championships at 48 hours and six days; Trishul Cherns is its president. The 48-hour title has moved every year, from Hainesport, New Jersey, in 2022 to Gloucester, Balatonfüred, Pabianice and, in March 2026, Cinisello Balsamo in Italy. The 2027 race, the sixth, goes to Skanderborg Ultra, which race director Casper Johnny Poulsen launched in 2023 and bills as Denmark’s only 48-hour race. The bar is high: at Pabianice in 2025, Matthieu Bonne ran 485.099 km to break Yiannis Kouros’s 1996 world record, and Patrycja Bereznowska set a women’s record of 436.371 km. The hosts are strong too: Denmark’s men won the team title in 2026.

• Prepare several rest options before race week. Stop for sleep or assessment if alertness, coordination, or safe decision-making deteriorates.
• Repetitive surfaces can expose fit, friction, and loading problems. Check in when symptoms or conditions change, and use only footwear already tested for the course.
• The directory does not mark this as having simpler logistics. Confirm qualification, terrain, support, registration, medical, and withdrawal requirements before planning around it.
• The Danish category is sold out; only the waiting list and international places remain
