Phil Gore

Phil Gore set the backyard ultra world record at 119 yards in 2025, and it stood until Belgium’s Merijn Geerts and Ivo Steyaert completed 124 yards at the World Team Championship on October 22, 2026. His 119 yards remain the Australian record. At Dead Cow Gully in June 2025, he completed 119 yards, or 495.8 miles, before winning the Big’s individual world championship four months later with 114 yards. He had first set the world record on the same Queensland course in June 2023, with 102 yards at the Australian Backyard Masters, and won Australia’s site of the 2024 World Team Championship with 96 yards.

Gore also has elite fixed-time and trail results. He set an Oceania 24-hour best of 270.826 km in Taipei in 2024, won the 2023 Delirious W.E.S.T. 100-mile race, and won the Gamania Coast to Peak 100-mile race in Taiwan in both 2025 and 2026.

In August 2026 he took on Project 168, a solo charity challenge in Forrestdale, Western Australia, run on the backyard rhythm. He completed 152 hourly laps of a 6.71 km loop, slightly longer than the standard 6.7056 km yard, for 1,019.92 km before failing to finish the 153rd inside the hour. It was a fundraiser with a fixed endpoint and no competing field rather than a race, so it does not count as a record.
