The record so far
Łukasz Wróbel is a Polish ultrarunner from Leszno whose rapid backyard progression produced three major victories in just over a year. He won BackYard Ultra Warmia with 70 yards and Suffolk Backyard Ultra with 88 yards in 2024, then completed 116 yards at Legends Backyard Ultra in Belgium in 2025.
The 777.896 km Legends performance was a world record when it was set. Wróbel returned to Retie in 2026 and won again with 114 yards; by then the world record belonged to Phil Gore at 119 yards, and Merijn Geerts and Ivo Steyaert have since raised it to 124.
Wróbel also has fixed-time and road-ultra range, including an outright 24-hour win with 225.140 km in September 2026, third place at the 2026 Taipei 48-hour race with 385.395 km, and an 11:51:02 106 km performance in Taiwan. His 116 yards remain the Polish record and his best backyard result; as of October 2026, Yardlore lists them as the men’s 40–49 world record. He headed Poland’s pre-race roster for the 2026 Big’s Backyard World Team Championship, which started on October 17, 2026.
