The record so far
Kenneth Vanthuyne is a Belgian endurance athlete from Merelbeke-Melle. His best backyard result came at Belgium’s site of the 2024 Backyard Ultra World Team Championships in Retie, where he completed 100 yards for approximately 670.6 km and finished fourth. He was the last runner to stop before Merijn Geerts, Ivo Steyaert and Frank Gielen went on to 110 yards and Belgium won the team title.
Vanthuyne built his backyard record on Belgian loops. In 2022 he won WUK M&M Backyard Ultra in Doomkerke with 34 yards and Antwerp Backyard Ultra with a then-course-record 39 yards, and in 2023 he won One More Loop 5 with 38 yards.
Vanthuyne was selected for Belgium’s 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championship team. His 100-yard run from 2024 ranked third on the pre-race selection list. At Big’s Backyard Ultra in 2025 he completed 35 yards and placed 65th.
