The record so far

Jeff Garmire is an American long-distance hiker and ultrarunner whose work links route-based fastest known times with organized multi-day races. In 2025 he completed the Appalachian Trail southbound in 45 days, 8 hours, and 37 minutes, the current men’s self-supported FKT listed for the route.

His earlier projects include a self-supported calendar-year Triple Crown in 2016, the supported Great Western Loop in 2018, and historical FKTs on routes including the Arizona Trail, Long Trail, Colorado Trail, John Muir Trail, and Wonderland Trail.

Garmire’s race results add a different measure of endurance. He won the 2023 Jackpot 48-Hour race outright with 200.9438 miles and has five top-ten overall finishes at Cocodona, including 10th overall in both 2025 and 2026.
