Course & Terrain
Point-to-point and unmarked. The 2026 route climbs out of Andorra la Vella over the Andorran Pyrenees, crosses into France beyond Pas de la Casa over the Col de Puymorens to Latour-de-Carol, re-enters Catalonia at Puigcerdà, then runs via La Molina, Olot, Montseny's Matagalls and Montserrat to Tarragona.
Key course features to know before comparing this race:
- Refugi de l'Illa and Portella Blanca in the Andorran Pyrenees
- Olot's volcanic zone
- Matagalls and Montserrat
- Finish in Tarragona via the Pont del Diable
Entry & Logistics
| Registration and fees | Check the official event website for current availability, deadlines, prices, taxes, and refund terms. |
|---|---|
| Crew / pacers | Crews may help runners only at the life bases named in the runner guide, within 100 m before or after each base. At aid stations, runners may be handed only food and drink, with no help with gear, clothing or poles. |
| Drop bags | Runners can use one bag of about 50 liters, which the organizer carries to every life base and then returns to the finish. The 300-mile race has no start or finish bag drop. |
| Logistics note | The GPX track goes to entrants seven days before the start because the route crosses natural parks with protected nesting areas. Life bases have a limited number of beds, given out in order of arrival, with a one-hour rest limit when every bed is taken. The awards ceremony is on Saturday, October 17, at 6:00 PM. The same organizers run shorter TRAILCAT 50 and 25 races. |
Why This Race Matters
The organizer bills its fifth edition as one of Europe's most demanding ultras: a north-to-south crossing of Andorra, France and Catalonia through more than ten Catalan comarques, on a route that is not marked and is released as a GPS track only a week before the start. The race was first held in 2021.
Preparing for a Race Like Trail Cat The Race
The 200-mile race guide covers the format as a whole. These guides go deeper:
- 200-mile race strategy: Pacing, sleep loss, aid stations, navigation, crew and feet, with a worked Moab 240 plan.
- Sleep strategy for multiday races: An individual sleep plan with safe locations and clear stop criteria.
- Crew and aid-station strategy: Crew tables, aid stops, drop bags and runner preferences.
- Foot-care kit for multiday running: Tape, lube, socks, blister pads and simple hot-spot rules.
Planning Notes
- Prepare for sleep decisions, weather swings, and aid-station discipline. The distance is only one part of a multi-day fixed-distance race.
- Train for terrain-specific fatigue. Technical trails and mountain courses demand downhill durability, hiking efficiency, and reliable night lighting.
- The directory does not mark this as having simpler logistics. Confirm qualification, terrain, support, registration, medical, and withdrawal requirements before planning around it.
- The route is not marked. Runners must navigate with a GPS device loaded with the official track, and the rules suggest adding 5–8% to the track distance to estimate how far you will actually travel.
- Sources disagree on the time limit. The homepage says 142 hours, the rules PDF says 152 hours for the 300, and LiveTrail sets the Tarragona finish barrier at 10:00 PM Saturday, 154 hours after the start.
- The race is semi-self-sufficient. Aid stations have no cups or chairs, and aid stations and life bases are far apart.
