Why This Race Matters

The Autumn 100 closes Centurion Running's 100-mile Grand Slam, which recognizes runners who finish the Thames Path, South Downs Way, North Downs Way and Autumn 100s in one calendar year. Centurion lists it as a Western States 100 qualifier and a UTMB Index event, and Western States includes it on its 2027 qualifier list with a 28-hour standard.

Historical benchmark notes in the directory record (verify current records with the linked official sources):

  • Men: Hugh Tibbs, 13:03:59, 2025
  • Women: Susie Chesher, 15:22:00, 2016

Preparing for a Race Like Centurion Autumn 100

The fixed-distance race guide covers the format as a whole. These guides go deeper:

Planning Notes

  • Train for terrain-specific fatigue. Technical trails and mountain courses demand downhill durability, hiking efficiency, and reliable night lighting.
  • The directory does not mark this as having simpler logistics. Confirm qualification, terrain, support, registration, medical, and withdrawal requirements before planning around it.
  • Up to 13 hours of darkness
  • Busy road crossings with no marshals
  • Riverside sections can turn muddy or flood after rain
  • One-hour penalty for each missing item of mandatory kit

Event FAQs

Is the Autumn 100 a Western States or UTMB qualifier?

Yes. Centurion's FAQ says the race is a Western States 100 qualifier and a UTMB Index event. Western States lists the October 2026 Autumn 100 as a qualifier for its 2027 race, with a 28-hour time standard.

Can supporters meet runners on the course?

Only away from the checkpoints. Centurion bans supporters from every checkpoint and does not allow crewing, but they may cheer from places such as Wallingford town center, Benson Waterfront, Bury Down car park and Kings Meadow in Reading. Each leg is an out-and-back, so each spot sees runners twice.
