2027 Lottery and Entry Dates: Western States to Moab 240

Most of the big multiday and 200-mile races fill months before their start, so entry deadlines often matter more than race dates. We checked each organizer’s entry page on October 21, 2026 and listed every window that opens, closes or draws before February. The table lists them in date order. The sections below it cover what each race asks of applicants.

October and November: MDS, Last Soul, Western States

Marathon des Sables. The organizer’s homepage says registration for “MDS 120, MDS Handi, MDS Trek Morocco 2027” opens on October 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM (UTC+2). The banner does not give the 2027 dates of those events, so check each event page when registration opens. The full-length race is a different story: see already closed or full.

Last Soul Ultra World Series. The World Series page lists three qualifier windows. The USA qualifier window is open until November 1, 2026. The UK window opens the same day and closes January 1, 2027. The Australia x DCG window runs from December 1, 2026 to February 1, 2027. Each qualifier is listed with 200 places, 100 chosen by the Last Soul team and 100 by draw. A wildcard route is open through an Instagram story video tagged #LSU27. The organizer’s separate entry request page still says the closing deadline is “published once it is confirmed”. Read the two pages together before relying on a single date. Western States. The entry process page, updated October 20, takes lottery applications from November 1 to 21, 2026 at portal.wser.org. The date most likely to catch runners out comes earlier. The one-year qualifying period runs from November 3, 2025 to November 8, 2026, and the result must be posted online. A runner hoping to qualify at a race on the weekend of November 14 is too late for this lottery. Automatic entrants must complete their application by December 4 and still need a qualifier.

December 5: two draws on one day

Western States draws its 2027 field on Saturday, December 5, 2026, with results posted live at lottery.wser.org. Runners selected have ten days to complete registration. Hardrock holds its lottery the same day. Its application window has closed, and the 2027 race runs July 9–11 in the counter-clockwise direction. The two races start 13 days apart, so a runner drawn for both faces a real choice. Both organizers publish wait-list and refund rules, and those are worth reading before December 5.

January: Badwater and Moab

Badwater 135 is an invitational race, not a lottery. The 2027 schedule says the application goes up on Saturday, January 2 at 09:00 PT. It appears at the bottom of the Entry tab, after a Facebook Live video on the schedule and selection process. The application is taken off-line on Wednesday, January 20 at 17:00 PT. Applicants are notified on Saturday, February 6 at 08:00 PT, and entry fees are charged the same day. The 2027 race, the 40th anniversary edition, is on July 19–21. The 2027 qualifying standards are on the same page, so read them there rather than relying on last year’s rules. Our Badwater 135 guide summarizes them.

Moab 240 follows a few days later. Destination Trail lists the 2027 lottery from January 5 at 08:00 to January 24 at 23:59 MST, with the drawing on January 26 at 10:00 MST. The 2027 race runs October 8–12. The 2026 edition was stopped by a storm on October 11, and the organizer has not said how that affects 2027 entries. The race page carries no deferral statement for 2026 runners.

Already closed or full

• MDS Legendary 2027: the event page says all offers for the 41st edition are currently fully booked and points to a waiting list.
• Cocodona 250: the 2027 race moved to a lottery, which ran May 1–18, 2026, with results on June 1. That window has closed.
• Hardrock 100: applications are closed and only the December 5 draw remains.

Not announced yet

Spartathlon has not announced its 2027 entry process. It published its 2026 final lottery list on March 12, 2026, according to the official news page. Tor des Géants uses three windows on its TORX portal: priority, pre-registration and open registration. The organizer site blocked our check, so we have not listed 2027 dates. We will add both races when their organizers publish dates.

This is desk reporting. Every date in the table and the sections above was read from the organizer page linked beside it on October 21, 2026. Times are given in the time zone each organizer uses. We did not apply to any of these races. Being accepted also depends on qualification, selection and payment rules that we summarize but do not reproduce in full. Organizers change entry pages without notice, so check the official page again before the day you apply.
