Crew and pacers

For the counterclockwise 2027 run, pacers are allowed from Grouse Gulch onward and may start only at crew-access stations from there (Grouse Gulch, Ouray, Telluride and Chapman), or hike in to KT for a pacer exchange. Runners over 60 may have a pacer for the whole course. Only one pacer at a time is allowed, muling is banned, and each pacer signs a waiver and wears a wristband. Crews must stay within about 400 yards of designated crew stations and may not meet runners anywhere else. Each runner gets one crew pass, required to park at Cunningham and Grouse Gulch; in 2026, crews bound for Grouse Gulch waited at the Eureka Campground staging area until their runner was close. No crewing, parking or drop-offs are allowed on Ophir Pass Road. Family and friends may run the final mile in from the south end of the Nute Chute.

Drop bags

In 2026, bags went to Chapman, Telluride, Ouray, Grouse Gulch, Sherman, Cunningham and the finish; the last counterclockwise edition (2025) used the same stations with Animas Forks in place of Grouse Gulch, which returned in 2026. Bags are left at the Kendall Mountain Rec Center, across the 14th Street bridge, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday of race week, with a 3 p.m. Thursday deadline. Label each bag with name, bib number and destination, and weatherproof the contents. Bags come back to the Rec Center as stations close, all by the end of Sunday’s awards breakfast.
