Hi Rich,
You are welcome to share this with any ultrarunners or chat group:
According to my research (which has been known to be off!),
the upcoming New York Self-Transendence 6 day race (first week of May at historic Meadow Lake/ Worlds Fair site in Queens) could be the largest and one of the deeper fields EVER for a 6 day race. Yes, I am aware of the great 1984 field led by Kouros, Mittleman, Eleanor Robisnon (all 3 are heroes of mine), BUT-- the last I checked many-time US national champ John Geesler was signed up
for the 2006 6 day, and womens world road record holder Dipali Cunningham, various international standouts and several other 400++ mile runners, etc.
Even slow old Mark Dorion has been training and is hoping to make it to the line on the Meadow Lake bike path (where Don Ritchie set world road 100 mile best of 11:51 in 1979).
There could be a starting field of 70+ runners, YET I do not see the two "most famous non-stop runners" (one of whom you mention in your "in the news") signed up.
Tell me where my reasoning is off: what better venue for a great runner to go after a true world record for multi-day running than on a scenic, historic certified 1 mile loop, with outstanding aid and facilities, against a stellar field of runners??
